Aruba is a food lover's dream. This is your guide to places where you can grab quick, delicious, inexpensive sustenance that you can eat with your hands.
Check out these 5 awesome options for cheap, casual eating in Aruba:
1. The Pastechi House
Caya G. F. Betico Croes #42, Oranjestad, Aruba
Hours: Monday: 7am–6pm
Tuesday - Friday: 7am-7pm
Sunday: Closed
If you haven’t tried a pastechi yet, you’re missing out on an Aruban national treasure. Pastechi recipes are passed down through generations as fiercely guarded secrets. Delicate pastry rounds are filled with rich Gouda cheese, seasoned chicken, beef or seafood, are folded in half and gently fried to make this delightful treat.
The Pastechi House is known all over the island for having the pastechi to beat. Located downtown, in the heart of Aruba’s shopping district, their pastechis are the perfect cheap eat to grab on the go.
2. Scotts Brats
J.E. Irausquin Blvd 87, Noord, Aruba
Hours: Daily 8:30am-3pm
Nestled in the sand on Palm Beach, Scott’s Brats has great prices and an eclectic menu of classic American comfort food for breakfast and lunch. You can gaze at the Caribbean Sea, through the palapas, perched on a stool at Scott’s bar while you scarf down one of their famous brats. If sausages aren’t your thing, try pairing a Bloody Mary you made yourself with a stuffed grilled cheese sandwich or a breakfast burrito.
No shoes? No shirt? No problem!
3. 080
Noord 90, Noord, Aruba
Hours: Daily 4pm - 12am
Once upon a time, a couple of guys in the Netherlands spent their dreary, winter days dreaming about opening a lively, corner bar in sunny Aruba. They’d serve authentic Dutch fare and icy, cold drinks; to locals and tourists alike. Then, one day, they did just that and we all lived happily after.
080, known locally as Nultachtig, has everything you want from a cozy, corner bar. Good music, great company and scrumptious cheap eats. Try a local beer and a Dutch snack platter or their celebrated fish and chips. Don’t be surprised if 080 becomes one of your favorite places to hang out in Aruba!
4. Pika's Corner Aruban Cuisine
Route 3 Palm Beach, Noord, Aruba
Hours: Monday - Saturday: 6:45am-10pm
Sunday: Closed
Pika’s Corner has a simple motto: Good food doesn’t have to be expensive! Much like Aruba’s culture, our food is a glorious amalgamation of the very best aspects from everywhere in the world. This fact is well represented in Pika’s menu. They have daily specials, fish of the day and lots of other choices that will make you happy - no matter what you crave.
Unassuming at first glance, Pika’s Corner is located in a tiny strip mall in Palm Beach. Once inside you’ll be charmed by the atmosphere and delighted by Aruba’s renowned hospitality. You’ll need to wear shoes and use utensils - especially if you’re trying the Sopi Di Dia (soup of the day) but you won’t believe how much you get for what you pay.
5. El Mexicano Snack Truck
